Real or fake?

Hello everyone,

I just found this in my grandpa's house while cleaning it.

I don't know anything about it.

Is it real?

Thank you in advance

  • Hello,Kleanthos! You are greek, aren't you?! My friend, even if the coin is that of your grand-pa(and so,it is not a possible recent ''China made'' counterfeit) it seems to be a fake/fantasy coin. I say this because an important world coins catalogue, the KM,doesn't give any officially minted TAEL,for the Anhwei Province of China,in the 19-20 centuries... Sorry!😢

To see,at least,if the coin's metal is silver(as it should be! ; but I doubt it is!) you may do the magnet test: good silver NEVER sticks to a magnet! Even if the coin passes this test, you still cannot be yet 100% sure that it is silver made... There are other non-magnetic metals, besides silver. However, this test is a good start for ''investigating''.

  • Hello Andi!

I am Greek indeed. I was 99% sure that it was gonna be fake.

I tried a magnet and it didn't stick...so if at least is silver, is 33 gramms :)

Thank you very much for the info!!!
