Hi Kevin -- It's just a matter of artistry on the part of the coin sculptor. Like the spelling of TRUST on the US peace dollar, shown in my picture. Coins are a combination of precious metal, art, and history. The history goes way back, like the "bee and stag" coin from ancient Ephesus (300 BCE).
