German 1 shilling 1828 overstrike?

I have a German 1 Shilling (it looks like 1828) HSK but the 2 looks like an overstrike with 9.  Anyone have any information on this coin?

Thanks for your help

  • These shillings from the German city-state of Hamburg come in both gold and silver. Yours looks gold. The formation of the '2' is normal.

The gold versions are worth several hundred US dollars each. The silver, several tens of dollars. The gold one in our picture comes from where it sold for 550 euros during a 2016 auction. It is in gorgeous condition. Yours would probably sell for half that much due to staining. You might consider having it professionally cleaned (don't clean it yourself) by these people:

CoinQuest thanks Kuenker for use of their coin photo. It is a beauty!
