Jewish Bar Kochba Coin Authenticity?

i purchased this silver bar kochba coin (134/135 C.E.) in jerusalem at a "certified coin dealer" i am now researching this coin and the only ones i see online of this exact kind is only in bronze not silver. would like to know some thoughts.

  • Well, it is pretty likely a fake.

    There are several variations of coins from the Bar Kochba revolt, and some were made of silver. Our picture below shows two of the prevalent types.

    The upper coin in our image is a 'medium bronze' which carries the grape cluster and palm tree design. The lower coin is a silver zuz (do a Google search on Bar Kochba zuz) which has the grapes, but not the palm tree.

    I do not know of any silver coins with the palm tree, hence my guess is that your coin is a fake.

    I am far from expert in coins like yours. Perhaps another member here will shed more light.
