1749 doble dated cob coin

I found this coin in a beach in S.A. by the end of last year, and even that has salt damage, still has the year {1}749 and has doble year on it. Any suggestions if it may be worth it send it to NGC or not and the value of this coin?

  • Hello, Moises --

As you know, your coin is heavily damaged, and this renders value very low. It is not a fully formed cob, and, while the date appears, the denomination and mint mark do not. Overall value is equal to precious metal content. If you sent it to NGC, it would come back un-slabbed.

From your picture, it looks like it is made of gold. That's good. Gold is trading at about $1800 US dollars per troy ounce. There are 31.1 grams in a troy ounce.

    • Paul Richards  Thanks, but for some reason the pic looks like gold, but is silver, so I'm not too exited about it...
