Is it advisable to have this coin slabbed?

Hi Paul,

I subjectively gave this coin an AU grading which I’m planning to sell.   Would you recommend I consider slabbing?
Thank you,

Paul

  • Hi Paul --

The 2020 Red Book says $200 in AU-50. Slabbing would take a big chunk out of that. Scanning the "sold" coins on eBay, a typical retail price is about $150 slabbed or unslabbed, which is $50 less than Red Book catalog value. Everything is normal so far.  Based on that, I'd say no slab.

Your coin looks cleaned to me. There is clearly wear on the high points, but the high points are the same color as the rest of the coin. Internet photos can easily fool me, but if it is cleaned, it is worth less than $150.

It also seems to have a slightly off center strike, maybe 3% off center. This does not add value.

  • Hello! Sorry,my friend, but in no way your coin(although nice) can go to AU! There is clear wear on the high points of both sides(especially the ''One cent'' side) & details are gone now... An XF grade is the most you can get!
