Please help identify! Ferdinand IV Silver 12 grams Kingdom of 2 Scillies 1793 Diameter 32mm

Hello, Please can anyone help identify this coin? Sold to me as '6 Tari' but I am not finding it under that denomination and it has no recognisable value figures on it. Grani?   Piastre?

PS Happy New Year Everyone!

  • Hi John --

Sure enough. It is a 6 tari from Sicily. I never heard of it, either!

The one in my picture sold to a collector for $100 US dollars during a 2019 auction. Yours should bring about that price from a collector. A coin dealer would buy it for about half that much,

Here is the auction listing for the one in my picture.

Ranieri Numismatics > Online Auction 3 Auction date: 20 May 2019 Lot number: 483 Price realized: 90 EUR (Approx. 100 USD / 79 GBP / 101 CHF) SICILY Ferdinand IV (I) of Bourbon, 1759-1816. 6 Tarì 1793. Ag gr. 1.24pm Dr. Armored half-bust r. Rev. Fluted cross. Spahr 40; gig. 35. Rare. BB Starting Price: EUR 50

  • Wow that was quick! Thank you Paul. I bought it as an extension to my interest in Knights of Malta coins. I wonder if the Fluted Cross and the 8 pointed Cross of Malta are in some way related. At least I can list it now :) Happy if you want to use the image.
