  • Well for a start it seems to be from one of the Indian states I think it would be made under a Hindu ruler. I think that should eliminate at least .2% of the possible coins. Good luck.

    By the way, while these coins have been made since almost time immemorial, they  stopped making them mostly in 1947. How's that for a range of dates? Sorry I can't be more of a help.

  • When I was running the CoinQuest site on a daily basis (cut back now), I'd get stumpers like yours and often relied on the super-experts over at World of Coins ( http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/ ). It you get no luck here, try there.

  • GOT IT - after scouring the catalogue I believe I've properly attributed it: Bhutan, 1/2 Rupee (Deb), ND (1835-1910), KM#7.2. The obverse (first pic with what looks like a lightning bolt and some moons) should be rotated 180ยบ for it to be facing the right way. Hooray! I love figuring out a mystery like this...
